Advanced periodontal care

Protect Your Smile from Gum Disease

Healthy smiles rely on strong foundations. Bleeding, swollen or receding gums are key warning signs of gingivitis or advanced periodontitis. Ignoring them can put your smile's foundation at risk and lead to loose teeth.

Whether you have early-stage gingivitis or need a deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) for advanced periodontitis, our clinical team, led by Dr. Pavandeep Kooner, delivers precise, gentle and effective treatment to protect your teeth.

Common signs of gum infection

  • Gums that bleed when brushing or flossing
  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Receding gums that make teeth look longer
  • Loose teeth or a change in your bite
  • A bad taste or pus around the gums

Why it happens

What Causes Gum Disease

Gum disease often develops quietly, which is why regular checkups matter.

01

Plaque & Tartar

Bacteria in plaque and hardened tartar irritate and inflame the gums.

02

Smoking

Smoking weakens the gums and slows healing.

03

Health Conditions

Diabetes and hormonal changes can raise the risk of gum infection.

04

Missed Cleanings

Tartar below the gumline can only be removed with a professional cleaning.

Our approach

Our Comprehensive Gum Therapy Approach

Every step is focused on stopping infection and protecting the bone around your teeth.

  1. 1

    Deep Diagnostics

Pocket-depth measurements precisely map the health of your gums and the bone that supports your teeth.

  2. 2

    Scaling & Planing

Deep cleaning below the gumline removes hardened tartar where a toothbrush cannot reach.

  3. 3

    Laser Protection

Targeted laser care helps reduce harmful bacteria so the gums can reattach to the teeth.

  4. 4

    Maintenance

A custom cleaning schedule keeps bacteria low and protects you from future bone loss.

Good to know

Gum Disease Questions

Still have a question? Our team is happy to help.

What is the difference between gingivitis and periodontitis?

Gingivitis is early gum inflammation that causes redness and bleeding. Periodontitis is the advanced stage, when infection damages the bone that holds your teeth in place.

Can gum disease be reversed?

Gingivitis can usually be reversed with a professional cleaning and good home care. Periodontitis cannot be fully reversed, but treatment stops it from getting worse and protects your teeth.

Is a deep cleaning painful?

Scaling and root planing is done with local anaesthetic, so most patients feel very little. Your gums may be a little tender for a few days afterwards.

How often should I have my teeth cleaned?

Most patients do well with a cleaning every six months. If you have gum disease, we may recommend visits every three to four months to keep it under control.

Do you direct bill insurance and the CDCP?

Yes. Cleanings and gum therapy are billed according to the BCDA Fee Guide, we direct bill most plans and we welcome Canadian Dental Care Plan patients.
